Skull-Back Tank - Sherlock: Skull On The Wall

Cutting up or styling T Shirts is an enticing way to add your own unique style to an already incredible work of art. The most successful graphic tee remixes preserve the original artwork instead of compromising it.
There are many interesting ways to cut up your T Shirt, from altering the sleeves and neckline, to adding lace or studs to it. In this DIY Tee tutorial, I will be showing you how to add a grungy/vintage look to your Design By Hümans T Shirt. A rising trend in tee revamping is the ripped up and cut up skull-back. A mix between edgy and trendy, this skull cut tee will definitely turn heads.

Skull Tee Front Design Cut up tee design materials

Materials Needed: One oversized Design By Hümans T Shirt, a pair of fabric scissors, a marker, a piece of paper large enough to cover the back of your tee, and some awesome music to inspire your creativity. The graphic tee featured in this tutorial is 'Sherlock: Skull On The Wall' by Hüman zerobriant. Or check out our collection of skull shirts for your own unqiue style.

Cut Up Skull Tees

For Step Two you will need your marker and your piece of paper. Using your marker, begin draw out the outline of the main facial features of a skull. Don't stress about making this part perfect. The messier the stencil, the grungier your final tee will turn out. You'll find out later that the stencil won't look much like your final result. Now draw some creepy snarled teeth and two big empty eye sockets.

Trace the Cut Up Skull TeesCut Up Skull Tees

Now that you've sketched out your skull face drawing, the next step is to begin cutting out the shirt. For this step you will need your fabric scissors. Carefully cut out each shape on the page. Don't worry about cutting inside our outside of the lines, it won't matter! But do be careful not to cut the negative spaces between shapes - this will make it more difficult to use the stencil in Step Five.

Step 5 Cut Up Skull TeesCut Up Skull Tees Template

Once you've finished cutting out all of the shapes on the page, you have a finished stencil, ready to go to work on your cool skull cut tee! The next step is placing the stencil over the back of your Design By Hümans T Shirt. Place a firm surface between the layers of your tee to prevent cutting up the front side - I used a piece of cardboard. Position where you want the design, and tape it down to keep the design steady for cutting the skull face.

Step 5 Cut Up Skull Tees

Using your fabric scissors, cut out all of the areas of the T Shirt that show through your stencil. Perfection doesn't matter here either - the messier the cut, the grungier the look! When cutting out the teeth, it's helpful to pull a small amount of fabric through each hole and snip it. An average pair of scissors probably won't fit into those holes. After you've finished cutting, remove your stencil and start stretching out the fabric. Stretch out the eye sockets and pull on the teeth holes, without ripping any of the material between them.

Cut Up Skull TeesCut Up Skull Tees

This final step is optional. If you would rather wear an awesome ripped up skull tank than a T Shirt, you will need your fabric scissors All you will need to do is carefully remove the collar and sleeves of the shirt, cutting along the seams. If you decide you want a more low-cut neck or larger sleeve holes, additional cutting and stretching is up to you. Be creative and unique, but be respectful of the artist's design!

Cut Up Skull Tees ModelCut Up Skull Tees Shoulder

Now that you've finished your cut up skull tee, there are countless ways you can wear it. Pair it with some dark skinny jeans and combat boots, or wear it as a dress. Wearing a bright tank top under your new tee will cause your design to pop and will definitely draw some attention to it. You now have your very own unique tee with cool graphic art, and a personal custom cut touch!

How to Make a Vintage T-Shirt Design

$
0
0

Anyone can create a vintage-style design for their Design by Hümans T Shirt submission. In this blog, I will show you how to turn your original artwork into a worn, distressed vintage design. Below you will find written instructions on how to create a vintage t-shirt design in ten simple steps, along with screenshots of the actual design process. I’ve also created a real-time video tutorial with a lovely voice over.

Over the last few years, designing t-shirts with a vintage look has become a popular fashion trend. The use of textures, noise, and lowered opacity levels make the design look tarnished and worn out. Vintage shirt designs also appear washed-out with a limited number of colors or sepia tones. An interesting and fun way to create a vintage t-shirt is to incorporate modern concepts and images with a worn out textured look. What makes a design vintage? The current popularity of vintage and retro designing in the t-shirt world is reminiscent of old times, produces nostalgia and inspires new (and old) thinking. You can find the best vintage t shirt designs from Design By Humans Artists below.

Video Tutorial : How to Design a Simple Vintage T Shirt

Create a Vintage-Style T Shirt Design in Ten Simple Steps

How 2 Vintage TeesStep One
Select a piece of artwork that you would like to use to create your vintage T Shirt design. To begin, open up Photoshop on your computer and select File>Open, and open your original artwork.

How 2 Vintage TeesStep Two
Create a canvas of the same size as your original artwork and Copy>Paste your artwork into the new canvas. Place the two canvases side-by-side. This way you will be able to see your progress as you create your new vintage graphic art. Save the second version of your artwork as a different filename so you don’t compromise your original artwork.

Vintage Design TextureStep Three
The next step in the vintage design process is to select a worn texture. You can select one of the vintage textures provided in the resources section, or find one of your own! You’ll want the texture image that you choose to be a high enough resolution that it won’t appear pixilated when you resize your image.

Vitnage Design Step 4Step Four
In your new artwork canvas, create a new layer. From File>Place, select your vintage texture of choice and place it in your new layer. Resize the texture to cover the entire artwork. It’s alright to distort the texture image in this step. What is most important is the grunge look that the texture of the paper will give your artwork.

Finding a Vintage Brush TextureStep Five
You will now want to look for a vintage brush set from one of the websites provided in the resources section, or find one on your own! Choose a brush that will give you the desired effect for your finished product. You may need to try out a few brushes before finding the perfect one. Download the brush or brush set to your computer.

Applying the Vintage BrushStep Six
After you have downloaded a brush set to your computer, select the eraser tool, or add a layer mask to the design in Photoshop. From the brush palette drop down menu, click the small arrow in the top right corner, and from that menu select ‘Load brushes.’ Open the brush set that you have downloaded and they will show up in your brush palette. Select a vintage brush and begin erasing or masking the edges of your artwork to give it a vintage look. Get creative here!

Apllying a Clipping mas to Vintage DesignsStep Seven
When you are satisfied with the look of your design, click on your texture layer. Right click the layer to the right of the image, and select ‘Create clipping mask’. You will now see the effects of step three appear on your texture image. Depending on the amount of your artwork that you erased, your texture layer will give you somewhat of an idea of what your finished design will look like. If you are unhappy with the way that it looks at this point, go back to your artwork layer and click 'Undo' a few times or do a bit more erasing.

Blening Vintage DesignsStep Eight
After you’ve created your clipping mask on your vintage texture layer, and you’ve decided that you are happy with the outcome, with the texture layer selected click the drop down menu at the top of the layers panel. The panel should say ‘Normal’. Scroll down the drop down menu and select the ‘Multiply’ option. You can play around with the other options to find your desired look. When you have finished with this step, you will have your final vintage design!

SAve Vintage DesignStep Nine
If you have a background layer in your layers panel, delete it so that your background is transparent. You can tell if your background layer is transparent if you notice a small gray and white-checkered pattern behind your image. Now you can go to File>Save as and select Format>PNG. This will keep the background of your image transparent.

Vintage T Shirt Design TemplatesStep Ten
Load a T Shirt Template off the Design By Hümans Website. These templates can be found in the T Shirt Submission Design Guide. From File>Place, select your .PNG artwork and place it onto your T Shirt template of choice. This will automatically place the design into its own later. Resize your image on the T Shirt. If you feel that the image is too transparent or low-contrast, you can edit it in the Image>Adjustments panel or create duplicates of your design layer and place them on top of each other. Satisfied? Awesome! You’ve created your own trendy vintage-style T Shirt, ready for submission on the website! Good luck in creating your very own vintage t shirt design, you can experiment with vintage textures, opacities, brushes, and blend tools to make your very own vintage T Shirt.

Black Rose Vintage TexturesBlack Rose

Fresh Air Vintage BrushesFresh Air
This T Sshirt, designed by _S3_, is a somewhat morbid representation of a polluted world. This shirt appears to have been made with layer masks and vintage brushes, similarly to the design tutorial featured above.

Skull Vintage TexturesLife Care
Life Care is a beautiful piece of work designed by surfistinha. He utilized vintage textures overlaid on his original artwork. Vintage design often exhibits colors of similar hues. The art in this design features a lot of grays, greens and browns. What is more vintage than a Human skull?

Sepia Brush TonesNever-Nevermore
This unique vintage T Shirt, designed by Hüman kdeuce has the visual aspects of an old photo, forgot in a dusty attic for 50 years; a little ripped and a little damaged but beautiful all the same. The design is monochrome and sepia toned, and uses very few colors. A worn texture overlay gives this T Shirt a vintage feel.

Outlaw Vintage TexturesOutlaw Lovers
This vintage T Shirt designed by moutchy incorporates an old-school style, as well as some old-school characters. Bonnie and Clyde, American outlaws during the early 1900's, were the main inspiration for this T Shirt design. A vintage Photoshop brush could have been used to create the watercolor-like background. This design features only two colors, and has a textural overlay.

Thanks for reading our vintage tee tutorial, we hope you got some useful design tips to pile on your skills! The distressed look can be challenging, but you can accomplish a lot with colors, brushes and textures to take your vintage tees to the next level.

Sustainable Printing with Eco-Friendly Inks at Design By Hümans

Eco Friendly Inks and TeesSustainability has become a necessity in today's society. At Design By Hümans, we are doing our part to help preserve the natural environment and reduce our ecological footprint. Nobody can change the world in one day, but by printing locally and using environmentally friendly inks, we are taking a small step in helping to improve the condition of the planet. The inks used to print on our T Shirt blanks are completely water-based, phthalate free, and metal-free. Water-based eco-friendly inks produce a lighter print that becomes a part of the shirt rather than sitting on top of the material. The eco-friendly inks that we print with allow for a more breathable T Shirt. Other inks tend to produce a less breathable image and sit on top of the T Shirt, making it feel less authentic.

Watch out for T Shirts with Phthalate or Metal Inks

Life Care Eco ShirtWhen T Shirt designs are printed with inks containing phthalates, as the T Shirt wears over time or if the inks are not cleaned or disposed of properly, phthalates are released into the environment as a pollutant. Design By Hümans uses an eco-friendly alternative to phthalate printing ink; water-based inks containing only water and pigment. Water-based inks render vibrant colors, and are much less harmful towards the environment. By using phthalate-free, water-based inks, the image printed on your T Shirt will last just as long as the shirt itself with the ink‘s ability to hinder cracking and fading. The Design By Hümans Premium T Shirt blanks that we print on are guaranteed to be sweatshop-free.

Taking the Turn Toward Sustainability and Eco Friendly Shirts

A Quote from the Synthesis, written by Sara, perfectly paints a picture of the sustainable practices that we stand by in the Design By Hümans warehouse.

“The Design By Hümans shirts are printed in the USA using eco-friendly inks, and they’re guaranteed to be 100% sweatshop and child labor free. I have a strong appreciation for a business that builds this kind of accountability into their business model. I’m hoping that, as the consuming public becomes more demanding of transparency, and more morally aware of injustices – both hüman and environmental – that budding, local entrepreneurs will follow this example.” - Sara

Recycling and Repurposing in our Office

We make it our intent to exercise many sustainable practices in the recycling of our products. When we receive shipments of T-shirt blanks, the cardboard boxes are all recycled, off to become a cardboard box somewhere else in the world. The building, or repurposing of the Design By Hümans warehouse is the definition of sustainability. We have taken something old and made it new, preserving as much of the original structure as possible rather then creating a new building. Expensive flooring material and excessive embellishments or decorations are not of importance in our work environment. Here in the Design By Hümans Headquarters, an enjoyable and inspiring work environment is more important than the material that our office doors are made of.

Recycling at Design By HümansMany of the parts used in the original construction of the warehouse, as well as removed from the original space were kept and repurposed as well. Piping from the original structure of the building has been set aside, and we have some very interesting plans for them. To take something old and use it to create something new is a sustainable and entertaining process. Most of our old piping will be used to construct Design By Hümans robots to model T Shirts in our entryway, and the rest of the piping will be used to build desks for office use. The wooden pallets used in the refurbishing of the warehouse were reused rather than thrown away. We hand-built a pop-up shop out of the old recycled pallets, a mini portable store that can be erected in any location, completely sustainably built. Any T Shirts that are printed at a quality unfit to be sold on the website are first sold locally, and ultimately donated to those in need.

You are the change that the world needs, no matter how small that change may be. Choosing an eco-friendly shirt from Design By Hümans, you are taking a stand against the production of clothing that is harmful to the environment. You are just one person, but one person can take one small step towards a big change. Be alive, be a change, be hüman.

2013 Trend Report - The Year So Far/Future Trends

*Trend Report 2013* Well we are past half way through 2013 and it’s time to reflect on the good times, the awesome times and the weird and wonderful moments so far. We’ve seen some amazing graphic tees come through and with the adding of the Collectives trends are appearing like beads of sweat on a hot July evening in California. So let’s see if my previous trend forecast was at least close "(Previous trend report from me)":http://www.designbyhumans.com/forum/dbh-news/1151177/2012-round-up-2013-emerging-trends/ "RAINBOW TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/?q=rainbows Now in my last report I said more color so I’m taking this as the same thing. I don’t know whether it’s because of the double rainbow meme of last year or a love for rainbows in general but they definitely came full force in 2013. Rainbows in space, rainbows at the beach, painted rainbows, eyes bleeding rainbows. You name it we had it. Rainbows are pretty so I say bring on more. More color in abundance, I win that round. "WOLF TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/wolf-t-shirts/ Now I don’t want to say that Game of Thrones is responsible for this one but a lot of these wolf designs look like Direwolves. I didn’t predict the wolf invasion but I did watch the show. As a fan I am happy to see wolves on tees but as a fan of the UK soccer team The Wolves also, I am even happier. Wolves FTW! "PANDA TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/panda-t-shirts/ Those cute and cuddle bears have exploded onto our chests and I saw that one coming a mile off. We have a plethora of awesome panda tee here. We have seen loads of cool fun panda tees, but also some with strong messages. The panda is cute but remember they are endangered too! Don’t just wear the tee, support the cause. "POP CULTURE TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/pop-t-shirts/ Pop Culture is always around in the T-shirt world and in recent years it has exploded with many nerdy TV show/movie/gamer tees appearing. Design By Humans isn’t usually a place renowned for pop culture tees but the Collectives have seen a rise in the genre. A good concept and a fun new approach will always make for a great pop culture tee that will stand the test of time. "CAT TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/cat-t-shirts/ Lions, Tigers and Leopards have always been popular but in 2013 we saw a surge in these and domestic cat tees. The internet loves our feline friends and it looks like the Design By Humans community does too. We had a range of funny tees and roaring good art tees too. "TATTOO TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/tattoo-t-shirts/ Tattoos are always on trend and this year we saw a rise in tattoo style art. Iconic traditional pieces and some more elaborate twists on this art style. I see this as a growing area of the Design By Humans catalog. "COMIC TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/comic-t-shirts/ I predicted this area as a trend. While we did get some winners in this category there wasn’t as big a trend as I had predicted. Always a cool style and as far as I am concerned always welcome at Design By Humans. *NEW & EMERGING TRENDS* "FLORAL TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/skull-cross-bones-flower-shirt/14565/ Florals are on trend and I am not sure if it’s a summer trend or a longer lasting trend. Flowers and natural elements mixed with darker icons are making the rounds in the T-shirt world. A unique balance is required to pull this kind of tee off. "WHIMSICAL TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/?q=WHIMSICAL People seem to want their tee to tell a story, have a meaning or display a character with a playful back-story. With the explosion of “good feeling” typographical pieces on the internet people seem to want their fashion to also have a deeper more thought provoking message. “Everything will be OK” is the general message but I also like the move towards representing iconic literary figures or homage’s to books or stories. Get your whimsy on! "PHOTO-REAL TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/?q=photo+real This area has always had a place in the T-shirt world but this year Photo-real came back with a vengeance. Nostalgia and instagram combined on a T-shirt. Iconic portraits, beach scenes, sexy people and fun concepts through photography are all on trend. This is a long term trend and not one I see going away. I also think mixing photography with hand draw elements is on the rise and something I really like. "HUMOROUS TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/funny-t-shirts/ Humorous tees are very prevalent in mainstream fashion but clever humor with a twist seems to be trending. Not your average joke tees these are more sophisticated and often require a second look. Maybe related to certain community they are almost inside jokes. Tongue in cheek, cheeky, naughty, edgy and fun. This style of tee isn’t instantly laugh out loud but more subtle nodding smile in appreciation. "DARK ART TEES":http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/?q=dark The dark arts are growing and I don’t mean in a Harry Potter way. I mean art centered a round death and darkness is making a come back. Dark art icons are all over fashion items right now, some subtle and some verging on offensive. Here at Design By Humans we never want offensive but a peek into the dark underbelly of fashion never did us any harm. Skulls have mass appeal but these tees are a little more edgy than just skulls. Obviously if you use one of these themes you do not get an automatic print but it’s a good starting point for inspiration. I’ll add to it too. Please post any ideas you may have. If you want to see a designer attempt a certain design idea, post it here. Bring the trend setting art folks! Exciting times. *wotto*

Coffee Shop Art: A Great Way to Get Discovered

$

Displaying art in coffee shops can be beneficial for artists and businesses alike. The publicity an artist will gain through displaying their art in a coffee shop will help them to get noticed and establish a name for themselves in the art industry. Art creates liveliness within a coffee shop and an enjoyable environment for customers. Many people visit coffee shops, day and night, enjoying art as they sip their freshly brewed coffee or tea.

Many coffee shops accept young aspiring artists to display and sell their artwork at a low commission or free of cost, an easy outlet for artists to showcase their art for the first time. Displaying artwork in galleries can cost a hefty fee that many ‘starving artists’ cannot afford. Art galleries tend to be somewhat exclusive, difficult to access, and make the displaying artwork a difficult and extensive process. However, the public displaying of artwork is an important aspect of the artistic process, helping artists gain support and encouragement regarding their artistic abilities and urging them to continue creating. While it is an honor to have your own professional gallery show, a coffee shop showcase is beneficial for artists just getting started. Coffee shops stay open longer during the day and produce a broader variety of publicity, with unique and unbiased tastes in art.

One young, aspiring artist has found it especially helpful to display his artwork in local coffee shops. Jon Hatcher has his art displayed in a coffee shop in his hometown, and is still able to gain recognition and even compensation for his artwork while he is out of state. His painting featured above is his unique tribute to the Beatles.

Coffee shop art is a gateway for aspiring artists to gain publicity and move forward in the art world. We sat down with some aspiring artists in our community and they had interesting stories to tell. Meet Amelia LaMar, a curator for a downtown restaurant and cafe in Chico, California called Broadway Heights.

Amelia LaMar
Art Director at Broadway Heights

Amelia LaMar is a talented and passionate painter, entirely self-taught. Displaying her art on the walls of local businesses has helped her to develop a reputation as a successful artist. As the Art Director and Curator at Broadway Heights, she interacts with local artists and displays their art on the brick walls of the very popular restaurant, where they can be admired and purchased. She has recently been hired to teach art at orphanages in India and Nepal. To help fund her upcoming trips, Amelia will be selling and raffling off paintings on her Facebook page. With a raffle, by spending a small amount of money, anyone has a chance to win a beautiful painting worth up to $500 or more!

Amelia considers art her main aspiration in life. She believes that it is incredibly important in today’s society.

“Art directly mirrors the times, and has the ability to show a person’s perspective on the human condition. If people can relate to art, than it is successful. That is a gift.”

More information on Amelia LaMar can be found at her website and Facebook page

Cierra Goldstein
Designer and Photographer

Cierra Goldstein is an artist, designer and photographer born and raised in Chico, California. A recent graduate from California State University, Chico, she is currently participating in a two-week CSU Summer Arts course in Monterey, California on Digital Documentary Photography. She has received a partial scholarship from both the CSU Summer Arts program and CSU Chico. The photos featured were taken in Santa Cruz, California, and are a beautiful representation of how Cierra sees Santa Cruz. A talented photographer, she shows us the city from a unique and artistic perspective.

Coffee shops are art exhibits for artists seeking a reputation in the art world. To become a reputable artist, the first step is to create a name for yourself. You already have the passion within you, the creative drive and the ability to express yourself. If you are interested in having you artwork displayed in a coffee shop, approach the idea with confidence and you will succeed.

8 Printed Tees That Blew My Mind

As Creative Director I get to see all of the submissions as they come in and I have to look and think, “Which of these beauties would make an amazing product?” Sometimes that’s easy, sometimes it’s tricky. Every once in a while a design is selected and I am excited by the challenge it will create at the printing stage. Seeing art go from paper to T-shirt is a part of my job I relish.

Luckily for us our printers are willing to try 99.99% of things we throw at them. I approve the very first t-shirt that is printed of every design. It’s a big responsibility but it’s also very exciting. In this blog I am going to list 8 tees that blew my mind when I saw the first sample. The tees that literally made me go “whoa!” The art that transformed beautifully from a submission to a garment. Let’s do this!

Lost By Carbine

This design won 3rd place in the Bright Futures Contest and I loved it from the day it was submitted. At the printing stage I went for super soft discharge inks. As a neon design I was concerned that the inks wouldn’t ‘pop’ enough. When I saw it roll off the press I almost fell over. Amazing bright neon colors and so soft. How? We mixed custom neon inks by hand!

The Dark Officer By Roncabardz

Ron’s work has always caught my eye but this tee was especially successful. I choose a Sage Heather blank for this one and the water-based inks worked well with the softer lighter fabric. The colors chosen by the artist were perfect. As it passed each printing screen it was clear that it was going to be amazing. The amount of detail and crisp color variations were always going to make it a popular tee. This artist knows how to make artwork that works in harmony with a blank. One of the most beautiful tees on Design by Humans in my opinion.

Sasquatch Frenzy By Mr-Nicolo

The day this design rolled off the dryer belt was legendary. We selected it with a nervous unknowing regarding printing. Could we print something this graphic so big? I was confident we could but the colors and the sheer size of this thing made everyone pay attention. The first print literally stopped the print floor, everyone clambering to take a look. It was glorious and as I signed it off for production I knew it would be a best seller.

Samurai Tiger by oBrunoMota

An instant eye catcher, this pencil design was a popular submission but I had my reservations about whether we could capture that hand drawn fine pencil detail. I upped the screen mesh count for this one and it paid off. The fine detail was captured and the art blended brilliantly with the fabric. The first print was instantly approved, taken to my office and lives on my rack of ‘amazing Design By Humans tees I like to show off’ to visitors. It’s beautiful and popular.

Hello Mr. Wayne By SPYKEEE

Raw discharge ink. It can be tricky and has varying results so I choose to use it on the winner of the Dark Knight Rises contest! As this complex design rolled off the printer I breathed a sign of relief. It worked and the detail was all there, it took some fine tweaking but it looked magnificent. I personally delivered it to the Warner Brothers offices and the reaction was exactly what I had been looking for. Awesome. A tee elevated by a print technique.

Angular Distress By Biotwist

This simple geometric design seemed too tricky to print on first glance but then I noticed the art was distressed and broken up. This is perfect for an all over because the print usually has a few creases or broken areas of print ink. When this printed using a red discharge ink I was gob smacked by the sheer volume of ink needed to cover the area. As it passed through the dryer a very cool abstract design appeared.

A designer who considered the process ended up with a very cool result.

Control By Angry_Monk

When this unique and slightly weird art was submitted I was instantly drawn to it. Dark and interesting with many details to get lost in. I asked myself whether it could really work as a printed design. Yes was the answer, obviously. When I saw the sample print I was amazed at the detail that had been captured. Only a few colors and a some handsome halftones from our separator and this thing really popped. Unique, well composed and one of the nicest printed tees I have seen in a while.

As Design By Humans continues to grow I am sure I will see a wealth of beautiful prints. Design By Humans is always delivering cool art that makes my job a joy. Seeing each print come alive is awesome but every once in a while a print amazes my seasoned eyes.

Design By Humans Goes Shark Week

Watch out, their teeth are sharp; some as sharp as diamonds. Sharks are the predators of the sea. All sharks are carnivorous and often convey a frightening appearance, but not all sharks are enormous, intimidating creatures. Many artists at Design By Humans have created beautiful (or frightening) designs of sharks and other sea-dwellers. It’s time to get amped, because shark week is coming.

Top 5 Shark T-Shirts

Limited Edition Shark with Pixelated Teeth - Designed by gloopz
This shark might be more fashionable than intimidating, but that gold tooth looks pretty sharp to me.

Fancy Shark - Designed by jun087
Another fashionable shark! All sharks have gills, some wear color-block grillz. This fancy shark design is more trendy than intimidating, but I wouldn’t risk getting too close; that grill looks sharp.

Underwater Business - Designed by fourscore
I can’t imagine what sort of business a man could be doing with a couple of vicious sharks in the depths of the ocean, but in this design it seems there’s a whole lot of booty involved. Treasure, too.

Shark VS Alligator - Designed by wolfinger
There is an incredible amount of detail woven into the design of this T-shirt, and it flows very well together. A shark versus an alligator; who do you think would win?

Diamonds are a Shark's Best Friend - Designed by niLs285
Shark bite like a diamond, shark bite like a diamond. We’re treacherous like villains of the sea.

Blogger's Choice Shark T-Shirt

The Diver (Trapped) - Designed by Fathi-Dhia
At first glance the shark in this T-shirt design might be hard to find – but look closely. The most terrifying view of a shark is through the perspective of a trapped diver’s eyes.

Back to School Checklist for Designers

Did anyone notice that it’s suddenly August? Wasn’t it just June? Summer is almost over and we at Design By Hümans can literally smell the overpriced textbooks that will soon be purchased; taste the gallons of coffee that will be guzzled down in the mornings just to make it through the day. I’m talking about school. Yes I said it, it’s that time of year again and as a designer you won’t survive a month in school if you don’t have the right tools. Here is a checklist of few items you will probably need as a design student.

Laptop
A laptop is a necessity for a t shirt designer in college; many design programs require students to have one. Both Mac’s and PC’s offer a wide variety of top-rated design software, so you can have your own portable design studio. Large screens are helpful for multitasking (which I know we all do) and detailing, and having a laptop in class is great for note-taking.

Design Programs
As a designer, you will find that you need programs to accomplish tasks from photo manipulation to logo creation. There are many products and programs available for both Mac’s and PC’s. The Adobe Creative Suite and CorelDRAW are excellent design packages. Wielding these magic programs you will create epic masterpieces beyond your wildest imaginations.

Drawing Tablet
Try not to be the student who, in her senior year of college, was still not using a Tablet to produce her vector images. I am talking about myself. A drawing tablet can be used in replacement of a mouse or trackpad to produce smoother lines and provide amazing efficiency.

Digital SLR Camera
Supposedly anyone can be a great photographer if they own a Digital SLR camera. Please refer to this blog post (just kidding.) It's always nice to have a camera that can produce high quality, high resolution images for designs. Nikon, Sony and Canon offer excellent Digital SLR options.

External Hard drive/Thumb Drive
When I was a Junior in college, my hard drive crashed. The magic Apple wizards were able to extract my files and I did not spontaneously combust. When I was a senior in college, my hard drive crashed three days before my last day of school. I lost everything, including my design portfolio. Save yourself the anguish and back up everything.

A Design By Hümans Hoodie
The fall season brings some colder weather and the need to bundle up. Don't let this hinder your style. Design By Hümans has a few awesome hoodies to rock in the colder months.

Large Headphones
I don't think it's actually a requirement to wear large headphones, but they look awesome. It’s nearly impossible to produce anything creative without listening to music, and throwing on a set of headphones is an easy-out when you don't feel like hearing the gab of gossiping girls next to you.

Back to School Style Guide: Kicks & Tees

So... What are you going to wear on the first day of school? Now that school is just around the corner, it’s time to get fitted. Whether your style is bold and unique or comfy and casual, there are some awesome shoes at JackThreads that would match perfectly with your favorite Design By Hümans shirts. There are many graphic shirts and casual shoes to choose from so we’ve made things simple and paired a few rockin’ kicks and cool tees together to give you some inspiration for your back-to-school style.

Wild POP Thing by expo paired with Supra Stacks in Turquoise/White
Be bold this year. Bright, neon colors are in style and this furious neon tee is the brightest and boldest. Pair it with some bright blue sneakers and you will stand out in any crowd. Rock these with a pair of jeans or black pants, or go full LMFAO and throw on those leopard print spandex? Do it.

Black Rose by FDZAkurt paired with J.D. Fisk Callum
The Black Rose tee screams hopeless romantic. A classy gentleman. These red shoes are the perfect hybrid of casual and sophisticated and bright and bold, while clean and well put together. Paired with some dark jeans, this match could be great for a date, or to swoon any lady on campus.

Calavera III by Wotto paired with Converse Jack Percell LTT OX
This skull graphic tee and shoe combo is laidback and casual. The black Chuck Taylors with white laces are always a classic, and skull patterns have been pretty popular lately; but this neutral gray pattern doesn’t stand out too much and goes great with these sneakers.

The Dark Officer by roncabardz matched with Bed Stu Uncle Felix in Red Greenland
Pair this graphic art tee with this subtly eye catching pair of loafers. These shoes match the rose color in this shirt and honestly look really, really comfortable. There’s nothing wrong with being comfortable and stylish.

Limited Edition Rhythm of the Rising Sun Tank by rejagalu paired with Penguin Footwear Dune in Khaki
If you’re lucky enough to live in an area that stays pretty warm during the fall you probably like to hang on to the summer look as long as possible. It’s hard to let go of summer. Warm weather means letting out those guns, and a nice pair of sandals and a graphic tank to get in one last tanline.

XIII by mouchy paired with Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Core OX in Black
There’s really nothing darker than death. The XIII tarot card literally means.. death. It’s kind of a morbid design, but I’d still rock it. Matched with some all-black Chuck Taylors death looks pretty stylish. Get a little of the gothic punk look with a splash of dark art.

Musical Robot by rpcabardo paired with KEEP Homer in Lichen
This funky tee design has many colors and could go great with just about any pair of shoes. Pastels are very in fashion and these light green sneakers with brown laces are just the right amount of color to match perfectly with this fun shirt. Throw on a pair of skinny jeans and this would make an adorable unique outfit.

Black Bear by RLMarkossa paired with Converse x John Varvatos JV Weapon Mid
Fitted cap, stunna shades and fur coat. This bear is a baller. Pair this shirt with a set of fresh high top baller kicks and walk around blasting some beats. That is, if you can handle looking as baller as this bear.

So are you going to try out a new style this year, or are you going to keep it plain and simple? Either way, you’ve got to wear something to school. It’s never too late to put together your fall wardrobe. These are some different ideas to inspire your creativity this new school year.

Were you aware that when browsing T-shirts on Design By Humans you can switch from gorgeous model view to detailed artwork view? There are many cool aspects of the website that may have gone unnoticed, such as the various ways to filter T-shirts. Check out our artist’s collective stores, and browse T-shirt categories to find specific types of tees. This guide will show you how to navigate the Design By Humans website and use its functions; they can be pretty helpful!

Viewing Options
When browsing T-shirts, there are three drop down menus above your search results. The first gives you the option of having your search results ordered by relevance to your search criteria, newest/oldest shirts, and best sellers or shirts with the most likes. From the second drop down menu you can choose whether to view the T-shirts on models, or view the artwork by itself. Viewing the artwork will present a clearer more detailed image of the design. You can also decide how many shirts are displayed per page.

Search Filters
To the right, you can filter your results in multiple ways by searching by type of shirt (contest winner, collective shirt, limited edition etc.,) by price, and by color. You have the ability to shop by your size to filter out shirts that are out of stock. You can then filter your results even more specifically by using the category checkboxes. Looking for a shirt with a cat wearing sunglasses? This section is your best bet on finding the perfect shirt. Search by category as well as T-shirt style. Maybe you only wear V-necks; gotta let out that wild mane, we understand.

Additionally, in the footer of the website there is an alternative way to browse the website called “T-Shirt Categories”. From here you can access T-shirt categories where we have grouped T-shirts into collections including vintage shirts, cat shirts and space shirts to help you find exactly what you are looking for. From the same menu at the bottom of the website you can access the Design By Humans Lookbooks.

Lookbooks
The Design By Humans Lookbook is the perfect place to find out what styles and looks are in season. The Lookbooks show you how to bump your style up a notch and pair your awesome tees with seasonal colors to create trendy looks. Browse cool spring looks or neon brights for some awesome outfit ideas.

Collectives
Do you pride yourself in being an individual or the type of person who wants to support great artists? This section is for you; here in the collectives you can select artist’s work from all over the world to make a custom tee just for YOU. It’s not magic, it is a program DBH introduced last year to help empower artists.

This section is organized by collective artist, and their shirts can be viewed by clicking the right and left arrows on their subsection. Clicking the artist’s name will take you directly to their collective store. Collective shirts can be printed on any color. Proceeds from the sale of each tee go back into the artists pocket to empower them to create more great art.

The Tee Grinder
This feature is ingenious. It’s like the slot machine of the T-shirt world. Select a size and gender and push ‘grind’, and watch those tees spin and grab three tees for an amazing set price of $30. Each time you do it you get a different combination of tees. You can keep going until you find three you like and then checkout with a cool set of tees at an incredibly low price. It’s a gamble because you may regret hitting that grind button and missing out on awesome tees that you had on a previous spin. Try it out and see if you can find your jackpot of tees!

So you’re looking for the perfect birthday present for your boyfriend. You want to get him a T-shirt, and you know he loves zombies and robots. Using the filters, categories and search features on the Design By Humans website will help you find that beautifully creepy disturbing T-shirt in just a few simple steps. Check out the features you didn’t know about! It will absolutely enhance your Design By Humans shopping experience.

Design By Humans Style Guide: Ladies Edition

There are so many interesting and creative ways to fashionably wear your Design By Humans tee. Don’t limit yourself to jeans and a T-shirt when you can accessorize and stylize to give yourself a unique and creative look. From girly and glamorous to grungy and edgy, with the right accessories and accents, your tee will be the foundation to a fabulous outfit.

Dress it Up
A few simple changes to your outfit can make you look glamorous. Accessorize with some sparkling silver jewelry or throw a crisp, clean blazer over your T-shirt to dress it up. Wear a pair of skinny jeans with heels or a flowy skirt.

Tuck your T-shirt into your jeans and wear a cute slim belt. Vibrant colored belts will pop against a colorful T-shirt, and gold or silver belts look extra glamorous. Wear this outfit out to a night on the town or to a party and be the center of attention with your unique and fashionable style.

Grunge it Down
Feeling adventurous? A little punky? Punk-style clothing has become very popular in the fashion word. Turn some heads with a grungy dramatic outfit by adding a leather jacket and combat boots or studded wedges to your style. Studs and spiked jewelry as accents are eye-catching and rebellious.

Plaid patterns are a classic punk look, and a plaid shirt makes any outfit a little more grungy and laid back. Layer a plaid shirt over your Design By Humans tee. Sometimes clashing colors and patterns are oh so trendy, in just the right way.

Cute and Stylish
Retro has become the new modern. High-waisted, destroyed shorts are easy to make, cute, and very affordable. Pick up a pair of $2 old high-waisted jeans from the thrift store and cut them into shorts. Art in Typography, Typography in Art

The process of creating typography is an art in itself; letter by letter or the intricate details of a word. Typography is often used in modern art and design. It is not simply text on paper, a set of letters, an arrangement of words, a description or a statement. Typography can create a statement in a more profound sense. Type can take the shape of objects, and it can deliver a message; communicate something meaningful and spread an idea. Type can be used in design to aid artwork and can be art in itself. Typography is a beautiful art form, and can incorporated in T-shirt design as well.

Located in the bottom-left corner of the Design By Humans websites is a link to the categories section of the website. In this section, tees are arranged by subject matter. This section includes a collection of T-shirts titled “Typography T-Shirts” containing Design By Humans’ shirts that incorporate typography.
