Hello Art People,
As 2012 draws to an end let's reflect on the themes and emerging trends of the year and look at what things we think 2013 should bring.
*2012*
*ZOMBIE TEES*
2012 saw the rise of the undead and here at DBH we certainly added to our Zombie category. Those scabby brain biters made a real come back and we saw some truly epic art in this area.
*SAMURAI TEES*
Always popular but in 2012 we saw some amazing art come from this theme. Some popular tees were born and I do not see this trend ever slowing down. Yay for Japan. Boo for no real life Samurais anymore.
*SKULLS AND APOCALYPTIC TEES*
2012 was the end of days according to some and with that gloomy doomy feeling came some darker tees. Some of my personal favorites were printed in this area and we certainly mixed up our catalog with some of these darker tees in 2012. Turn that frown upside down people we made it!
*FUNNY TEES*
This year our design community got a sense of humour and we saw a cascade of funny tees. Adding some classic designs to the top 50 and lightening the mood made some funny tees very popular this year. A growing area of our catalog for sure.
*THE USUAL SUSPECTS*
As always we saw the popular DBH themes appear in 2012 too; birds, astronauts, space, big cats, silhouettes, animals and abstract designs all made an appearance. Classic and popular, always a good starting points for a classic tee.

*2013*
New Year, New Tees! So as Creative Director here at DBH I am going to offer up some suggested themes for 2013. Sharpen your pencils and let's attack these new themes:
*Dinosaurs* - I miss them and although we have a few killer tees already I'd like to see a few more. Get clever and funny and lets respect the beasts that didn't make it through their own apocalypse.
*Pandas* - We like them and they are endangered so let's celebrate them while we can. They are naturally funny creatures so get playful or explore their plight.
*Comic Book Style* - I personally love this style of art on tees, the TDKR contest gave us some killer comic style art and I'd like to see that filter into the daily contest style too.
*Tattoo Art* - I just watched Ink Master and have a new respect for tattoo art, always cool and popular but I definitely think some of your artists could push this theme really well.
*Bright Tees* - The Gloom of 2012 is over so I'd like to see some very bright playful tees with some exciting opportunities to explore custom ink colors.
*Less Black* - We printed a lot of Black in 2012 and I'd like to see more designers explore different colored blanks in their submissions in 2013.
Obviously if you use one of these themes you do not get an automatic print but I thought this would be a helpful exercise. I'll add to it too. Please post any ideas you may have, want to see a designer attempt a certain design idea? Pop it in here and let's see what these masters of the pencil bring!
Exciting times.
wotto
